Hello Everyone
Well, what a great Term Two we have had at Kingston Primary. Not only did we receive some very positive feedback in our Public School Review we also completed NAPLAN without any glitches. School reports went home this week and students should be proud of their efforts.
A couple of things I would like to remind families about as we are moving to only two newsletters a term as of Term 3. To ensure we keep everyone up to date with what’s happening at Kingston Primary we have started a school Facebook page. I encourage families to “like” the Kingston Primary page to see all the wonderful things taking place. We also have our whole school communication app called Schoolzine. The way to download the app is outlined in this newsletter. In addition to these each teacher uses a Seesaw app to share class information.
In Term 4, we are having an outstanding educational expert visit us on Thursday and Friday of Week 1. His name is John Fleming and he will be demonstrating explicit instruction Mathematics lessons to staff in order to support our improvement journey. This professional learning opportunity will take on Thursday 14 October and Friday 15 October which means our Junior Athletics Carnival will move to Week 2, Term 4. The Junior carnival will now be Friday 22 October. We did try to move the visit with John, however, he is very sought after and unavailable at other times. I do apologise if changing the Junior carnival date negatively affects anyone but this is an excellent learning opportunity for staff that will ultimately support all students. The Senior Athletics carnival will be held on Friday 29 October, week 3.
Next term I will be seeking information from students as to what they like about Kingston Primary and what would make our school even better. If you have ideas too, please feel free to share these with me via an email, a chat or by dropping your thoughts into one of the many suggestion boxes we will have in the school in the coming weeks.
During Term 3 we will be having a Kingston community sausage sizzle. This will be a chance for families to come and meet the administration staff and others. More information about this will be out early next term.
As we go into holidays today, I sincerely wish you all a very happy and safe break. Looking forward to see all our students on Tuesday 20 July.
Kind regards
Katie Wallace
YEAR 6 STUDENT EXECUTIVES PARLIAMENT VISIT
On Wednesday the 23rd June the Student Executives had the privilege of spending the day at Parliament House. We were shown around by an enthusiastic and engaging man named Pete. He had all of us captivated by his knowledge of the State Government and his blood thirsty stories about the history of the ‘Speaker’. We were shown through different parts of the building including the Legislative Assembly which is the Lower House, and learnt about the history of the Mace. We were hosted by Robyn Clarke and Jodie Hans in the Swan Room and had a delicious and fancy lunch.
It was an honour to attend Parliament House and spend the day with the Student Executive. Their conduct and behaviour was exemplary.

Descriptive Writing - Narratives
In LA6 (Year 3) we have been learning how to write more entertaining stories by adding detail. Our focus was on developing character. We aimed for the reader of our story to be able to ‘imagine’ what our characters looked and acted like without seeing a picture. First, we got to choose and create either our very own superhero or villain. Next, we drew our character and listed as many words as we could to describe them, their personality and actions. Then, we followed a process whereby we planned, drafted and edited our own work. After this, we sought constructive feedback from our peers which helped us improve our text. Finally, we published our stories using the Book Creator App and got to share them with Mrs Eckersley (Deputy Principal) and each other. We felt like ‘real authors’ and had so much fun learning. We are super, super proud of our stories!
Feedback from some of the students involved:
Mackenzie – “I liked my character because she had scratching powers and all the powers in the world. It was fun describing her and I used lots of adjective.”
Sienna – “I felt more confident and I enjoyed doing the story and sharing with everyone. I felt proud of how much description I put in and I learned lots.”
Taylor – “It made me enjoy writing and I wrote another two stories straight after. I felt proud of my work.”
Senna – “It was fun. We learned how to write a story that was descriptive. I would like to write another story. It was fun!”
Zakiya – “I felt happy with my writing because I think my character was good. I want to write another story.”
This fortnight our Core Virtue is : Excellence
Excellence is doing your best. It is giving your very best to any task you do or any relationship you have. Excellence is effort guided by a noble purpose. It is a desire for perfection. The perfection of a seed comes in the fruit. When you practice excellence, you bring your gifts to fruition.
I give my best to the work I do. I give my best to others. I dare to set noble goals. I choose excellence in all things.

INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY 2021
Last Wednesday, Kingston PS competed in the Annual Interschool Cross Country Carnival. The carnival is held each year at Adam Rd PS, in Bunbury and has between 20-25 schools competing bringing their top 4 runners from each year group. Due to COVID last year the event was cancelled, so this year the kids were even more excited to run. The weather was perfect for running, with little to no wind and a winters sun peeking through. The students race between 2km and 2.5km depending on their age group, in the end Kingston PS finished 2nd overall, narrowly being beaten by Bunbury PS for top honours. On the day we had some great individual and team efforts, with Sebastion ’Bash’ Murray and Addison ‘Daylight’ Tanner finishing 1st, Zenya Basile finishing 2nd and Emma Lancaster finishing 4th in their respective races. The year 3 and 4 girls teams finished overall 1st with their combined points.
Again Kingston set the standard for behaviour and represented our school with the high standards we expect here at Kingston.
Well done Kingston.

Last Friday the Year 6 students walked down to the sports grounds to compete in the annual Winter carnival. The students played Netball, Soccer and Football with Kingston fielding the most teams. Other schools in attendance were, Treendale, Parkfield and Glen Huon. The day started at 10am and ran until 2pm, with the students competing against the other schools (and sometimes ourselves). The day is about the promotion of the three sports, giving students the opportunity to play in a team sport and maybe try their hand at a different sport. The Students demonstrated true Kingston spirit throughout the day. A big thank you to all the parent coaches and teachers who helped out on the day.
