SIENNA'S STORY

Descriptive Writing - Narratives

In LA6 (Year 3) we have been learning how to write more entertaining stories by adding detail. Our focus was on developing character. We aimed for the reader of our story to be able to ‘imagine’ what our characters looked and acted like without seeing a picture. First, we got to choose and create either our very own superhero or villain. Next, we drew our character and listed as many words as we could to describe them, their personality and actions. Then, we followed a process whereby we planned, drafted and edited our own work. After this, we sought constructive feedback from our peers which helped us improve our text. Finally, we published our stories using the Book Creator App and got to share them with Mrs Eckersley (Deputy Principal) and each other. We felt like ‘real authors’ and had so much fun learning. We are super, super proud of our stories!

Feedback from some of the students involved:

Mackenzie – “I liked my character because she had scratching powers and all the powers in the world. It was fun describing her and I used lots of adjective.”

Sienna – “I felt more confident and I enjoyed doing the story and sharing with everyone. I felt proud of how much description I put in and I learned lots.”

Taylor – “It made me enjoy writing and I wrote another two stories straight after. I felt proud of my work.”

Senna – “It was fun. We learned how to write a story that was descriptive. I would like to write another story. It was fun!”

Zakiya – “I felt happy with my writing because I think my character was good. I want to write another story.”
