Term 2 is already well underway and next week Kingston Primary School’s permanent principal will take up her position. Ms. Katie Wallace will take up her position after serving 8 years at South Newman PS. I know she is looking forward to beginning her appointment at Kingston.
This week, students in year 3 and 5 began the 2021 NAPLAN testing in Literacy and Numeracy. These are nationwide assessments that provide schools and parents with a snapshot of student achievement across the important subjects of English and Mathematics. Parents will receive an individual report of NAPLAN results in term 3.
This term, the school will also participate in an external review of its performance. Kingston PS last review was in 2016. A school review is part of the quality control and governance by the Education Department and they are conducted periodically by a review group comprising an Education Director and a peer reviewer (a principal). All aspects of a school’s operations are reviewed and the results are later published on-line.
Last week saw our new School Chaplain join our staff at school after the departure of Reet Joy. Mrs Kylie Fleming is based in the Chaplaincy Office in Gumnut Cottage. Kylie has been busy introducing herself and talking about her role at school with classes, staff and students. She can be contacted through the school’s phone number for appointments.
On Friday, I will be hosting lunch for our first group of students who have achieved Advanced Standing in 2021. Students achieve advanced standing after nominations from their teachers for exemplary behaviour, 100% attendance and attitude positive towards their school work. Staff are very conscious of rewarding the students who excel as well as the “quiet achievers” in our school.
This week will see me conclude my contract at Kingston Primary School after filling the position whilst the recruitment process for principal has been running. Kingston PS is a great school and it has been my pleasure to work with such a professional staff and such a wonderful school of students.
Thank you.
103 students and 8 staff had an awesome 3 days at Dare Adventure Camp in Dwellingup from the 28th-30th April. The students participated in various activities including archery tag, rock climbing, crate climb, commando course, team games, raft building and mountain biking.
The camp and the activities were designed to develop leadership, cooperation, teamwork, problem solving, resilience, build friendships, while also having a lot of fun! It was fabulous to see that students were comfortable away from iPads, phones and communication The students wore coloured bandanas to identify their group and wore them with pride. It was really encouraging to see students set physical, personal and mental goals and achieve them. Everyone was fed extremely well and the food was delicious.
The Year 6 students will have memories of their camp for many years to come!
On Friday the 23rd April, Kingston Primary School welcomed the community into the school grounds from 6.15am for the ANZAC dawn service. There was an encouraging amount of staff, students, parents, family and community members in attendance who witnessed the stunning sunrise that morning.
We were lucky enough to be joined by Mr Kevin Eaton from the RSL who addressed the crowd and Keedyn Sweetman, Year 9 Australind Senior High School student, who aptly played the bugle for the Last Post and Reveille. The local cadets demonstrated their reverence and respect whilst forming a boundary around the flags and tributes and our student leaders led us through the moving service with Mr Jones, who recapped his own experience as a young boy growing up in Broome. A welcome addition to our service this year was the inclusion of the New Zealand National Anthem.
After the service, the Kingston Primary School P&C provided a delicious breakfast and hot drinks with the help of the local Lions Club. Thank you to everyone who participated, supported and attended this important community event on the school calendar.
The Kingston Primary School Board is seeking nominations from Parents/Guardians who would like to join our school board.
Please see attached information, and nomination form. If you would like any further information, please contact the school office.
Nominations close on Friday 21st May 2021.

What do we do and if you join what can you be part of?
We run our school canteen and uniform shop. We hold raffles throughout the year such as Easter to raise funds. What do we raise funds for? We do have a minimum financial commitment each year to maintain our two businesses but after that is covered we are left to donate money to the school or purchase fun things to enhance our kid’s enjoyment at school. Got an idea of how we can make school awesome? So do we, so come along and share yours. We run the Mothers and Father’s Day stalls each year as well as organising vendors and stalls for our Sports carnivals. We are only limited by the number of volunteers we have.
What can you do to ensure we’re successful?
Come along and join our P&C. You decide how much time you can give and we all have kiddies so they’re no obstacle. In fact, kiddies are why we do what we do because we actually like them. We’re that village that helps to raise our kids, so bring them along and they can create new friendships too.
KPS P&C Meetings for 2021 are below. Commencing at 5.30pm in the staff room. Kids are welcome. Due to the timing of the meetings we often like to grab pizza to eat. Come along and join a vibrant and exciting team. Please bring $1 and become a financial member.

WELCOME EMMA!!
We would like to welcome our new Canteen manager Emma who we feel is going to be an amazing fit to our canteen. Make sure you pop in to say hello and order some of her delicious food on our quick cliq website.
In the meantime while Emma is finding her feet for the new role we have adjusted the canteen menu slightly - see attached. We are currently unable to provide birthday cupcakes, but we still offer the birthday icy pole bucket.
We also say farewell to the lovely Roz who has decided to have a change in career. We will miss Roz, and want to thank her for her hard work in the canteen, and wish her all the best for her future.
Canteen Team
Please follow us on social media to see updates on when the Uniform Shop will be open. We have recently employed the lovely Kiera for the job who is also a familiar face in our canteen. Don't forget you can also order through quick cliq and the order will go directly to your child's class room.
At this point we are reviewing our opening times for the Uniform Shop, and we will let you know as soon as possible what our opening hours will be.
We apologize if the reduced opening hours of the Uniform Shop in recent weeks has caused any inconvenience. We rely on volunteers - so if you are able to help out at all, please let us know.
Please note you can order online at www.quickcliq.com.au for delivery to the classroom or the uniform shop will be open every Thursday afternoon from 2.45pm - 3.15pm.
Hello from the P&C committee
Mothers Day
We would like to thankyou all for participating in the Mothers Day stall this year, we hope you all loved the gifts your children chose for you, we loved hearing the comical stories from the little ones about their mums.
A massive thank you to our volunteers you helped make the day run smoothly and stress free.
An even bigger thankyou to TARA BROWN who took a Mother's Day stall and exceeded all of our expections with the way she presented each item! The event definitely would not of been possible without her. If you see her around make sure to let her know how much you liked your gifts.
Bulb Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who supported our bulb fundraiser - your gardens are going to look amazing come spring and as a School we raised funds that will be going directly back to your Kingston Primary School kids!
Congratulations to all those students who won ice-creams last term and the scooter winner for Term 1 was Kai Ferguson. Well done.
