About Us
Kingston Primary School is located 200km south of Perth in the Australind suburb of Kingston.
The school opened in 2009 as a K-7 primary school, and was selected as one of the first 34 public schools in WA to become an Independent Public School.
Our priorities are:
- Social/Behavioural Development
- Wellbeing
- Literacy/Numeracy
- Strong community connections including enhanced cultural connections
- The use of data/research to inform decisions
In addition to our regular teaching staff, we also employ a number of teaching specialists, including a science specialist, a visual arts specialist, a music specialist, a Japanese language specialist, and a physical education specialist. All of our year 1 to 6 students participate in these programs.
Kingston Primary School is also unique in that we are a Professional Learning School – the very first in Australia.
What is a Professional Learning School?
Professional Learning Schools are similar to teaching hospitals in that a number of our classroom teachers are mentors, and have an intern with them throughout the year. At Kingston Primary School, our interns are from Edith Cowan and Murdoch University.
Working in a collaborative team, we are able to provide a greater capacity to meet the needs of all students in the class.
We believe it is our duty to support those training in all aspects of education, including pre-service teachers, student EAs and social work students.
Virtues
Kingston Primary School uses the Virtues Project to create a culture of character in the school. This is designed as a holistic approach to character education and provides students with empowering strategies that inspire the practice of virtues in everyday life.
Multicultural Interests
At Kingston Primary School, we recognise the traditional owners of the land that our school is built on, and the Noongar people of the South West of Western Australia. We also respect and celebrate the cultures of all who attend our school.
Our Mission
Our mission is to prepare every student with the fundamentals for life success, with the skills to positively contribute to society, and the opportunity to excel.
