Dear Parents,
What a smooth start we have had to the school term after a false start with Covid19 lockdown. Students have all settled in to the new school year very well and school programs are well underway. I am appointed to Kingston PS to fill the Principal role until the recruitment process concludes at the end of term 1. I am also joined by Mr Chris Eagle , a Deputy Principal who joins the administration team. Welcome Chris.
COVID19
Parents are encouraged to continue as far as practicable, to use “Kiss & Drop” strategies which not only helps with the physical distancing guidelines, but also assists with the quick turn-around of vehicles at peak hours. Like most public and commercial establishments we ask all visitors (including parents) who enter any buildings including classrooms and the office area to check in with the Safe WA app on their phones or a register of visitors.
School times 2021
We are asking for your cooperation to ensure that students are not arriving at school before the gates open which is at 8.20am. This is a duty of care issue. Between 8.20am – 8.30am, students should make their way to their classrooms and wait outside until doors open at 8.30am. The school day will officially start at 8.40am and end at 2.55pm. Thank you for your cooperation here.
Building Program
Work has started on a new classroom block which will replace demountable classrooms some of which were removed over the Christmas vacation. The builders have isolated the construction site from the general school area to ensure student safety. Until further notice the Northern pedestrian entrance on Braidwood Drive has been closed off. During the building program our already crowded school site has become even more of an issue and parents are urged to use the alternate entrances and then move off-site once children have been safely dropped-off. The construction is scheduled for completion in September and hopefully we will move in late in the year ready for the 2022 school year.
Parents & Citizens
Last night the first P&C meeting was conducted and was well attended. Can I urge all parents to support their children’s education through active involvement and your support of P&C activities. The school canteen and Uniform shop are both run on a largely voluntary basis, not to mention fundraising events and supporting school programs.
Parents raised a concern about the low percentage of families choosing to pay voluntary contributions to the school. I strongly endorse their concern as monies contributed all go towards equipment and programs directly benefiting our students. The P&C proposed strategies to encourage payments including a prize draw later in the year. Parents are welcome to make part payment arrangements. Contributions are endorsed by the Kingston PS Board and set at $60 per student in years K & PP and $40 per students for years 1-6.
Assemblies
After a disrupted 2020 assembly program we are now able to resume gatherings providing we adhere to government guidelines on physical distancing. Each class will present an assembly item during the year as well as music presentations and merit awards.

Dogs on school site.
Parents are reminded that Health Department regulations do not permit bringing dogs onto school-sites. With our large numbers and at times the unpredictable nature of both children and pets, dogs even on a lead present an unacceptable risk.
PAPERLESS PARENT COMMUNICATION
This year we are going to be going mostly paperless with parent communication, excursions etc so we ask you to please update your email address and also download the School App. The instructions are below:
Parents needing any help setting up their child's ipads should first talk to the teacher and if the teacher can't help then contact the front office who will get our IT guru, Josh to help you when he has a moment. Please do not go straight to his office.
Thank you.
This fortnight our Core Virtue is : Courage
Courage is personal bravery in the face of fear. It is doing what needs to be done even when it is really hard or scary. Courage is going ahead even when you feel like giving up. Courage is needed in trying new things. It is admitting mistakes and then doing the right thing. Courage is the strength in your heart.
I have courage. I am willing to try new things. I admit mistakes and learn from them. I listen to my heart. I have the courage to do the right thing.
Welcome back.
Please find attached our new canteen menu. We have had to increase some prices to allow for suppliers increases. Family meals are now available on Fridays. Please place orders by 2pm Wednesday if you would like to order the weekly special advertised on our Facebook group. We have added two new items to the menu for the small eaters, you will find them under the Lil Bites section. Birthday buckets of icypoles now available to order for classes as an alternative to cupcakes $15 per class. Hope everyone has settled in after the extra long holidays. Looking forward to having some fun days this term!!

Congratulations to the following students who received merit awards this term.

Well done !!
Your P&C needs your help. To run a P&C we have a requirement to have a minimum of 8 financial members on our committee and at each meeting. (Financial means $1 paid once a year) With a new year upon us we need parents to come on board or we risk having no P&C at Kingston Primary. This is no exaggeration. No P&C, and the canteen and uniform shop both close.
What do we do and if you join what can you be part of?
We run our school canteen and uniform shop. We hold raffles throughout the year such as Easter to raise funds. What do we raise funds for? We do have a minimum financial commitment each year to maintain our two businesses but after that is covered we are left to donate money to the school or purchase fun things to enhance our kid’s enjoyment at school. Got an idea of how we can make school awesome? So do we, so come along and share yours. We run the Mothers and Father’s Day stalls each year as well as organising vendors and stalls for our Sports carnivals. We are only limited by the number of volunteers we have.
What can you do to ensure we’re successful?
Come along and join our P&C. You decide how much time you can give and we all have kiddies so they’re no obstacle. In fact, kiddies are why we do what we do coz we actually like them… we’re that village that helps to raise our kids…so bring them along and they can create new friendships too.
KPS P&C Meetings for 2021 are below. Commencing at 5.30pm in the staff room. Kids are welcome. Due to the timing of the meetings we often like to grab pizza to eat. Come along and join a vibrant and exciting team. Please bring $1 and become a financial member.

Hello from the P&C committee
We would like to get you all excited about our Tesselaar Bulb Fundraiser!
40% of all proceeds will be coming straight back to benefiting our kids!
With the support of you all we are hoping to raise money for some fun new purchases as part of the school's new development!
Don't forget there are more bulbs on our unique website to pick from bulbfundraiser.com.au/KPSPNC
This campaign will end on the 16th April 2021.
Don't forget with supporting this fundraiser it will also help keep our fantastic CANTEEN and UNIFORM shop OPEN and will allow us to continue our efforts in mothers day stalls and fathers day stalls along with the many other hidden efforts the P&C does around the school.
