PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 3.

This term the staff and school board have started planning for our next three year Business Plan, 2021-2024. So far we've discussed a new Kingston Vision statement that will guide our journey and we're currently planning our priorities based on student performance data. You are welcome to view our progress at any stage by making an appointment to pop in and see me. I welcome all feedback.

This has been an extremely busy week in our school. Firstly, on Tuesday the deputy principals and I shortlisted teachers for jobs for 2022. We recently advertised for teachers to fill roles for 2022 and were delighted when 58 teachers applied. Next week we'll be interviewing the shortlisted applicants, I wish them all well. This process doesn't involve the many teachers that are permanent to our school.

This week has seen students preparing for our Athletics carnival that will be held in Term 4. We've also had many classes take advantage of the sunny weather and go on mini excursions to parks close by. One other major event was our Yarning Circle. Congratulations to Mrs Eckersley and her team for organising the successful afternoon. Some of our Aboriginal families joined us for a yarn to discuss how we can become a more culturally responsive school. Everyone left the afternoon excited about the future for our school in this space. I would like to sincerely thank the families who were able to be there and acknowledge other families who have shared their thoughts too.

Next Tuesday our Year 6 students will be attending Cinefest in Bunbury. This will be a fantastic day for the students as they will have the opportunity to see how films are made, hear how stunts are performed and have time to interact with film makers and make up artists. They will also watch a short film and participate in a question and answer session with the director of the film. I would like to thank Sarahjane Bilston who on behalf on Cinefest has made this opportunity available to our students.

At the assembly next Friday,  the 27 August one of the film makers from Cinefest will be a guest speaker. This will allow us to hear about her great work and hopefully spark the interest of students to consider film making, directing or producing as a career. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The P &C have been super busy organising a disco for our students. This will take place Friday, 17 September. Hope to see as many students on the dance floor that afternoon. Stay tuned for more information about it.

I encourage families to join our school Facebook page, the P&C Facebook page and our school app to keep up to date with all the happenings at Kingston PS. For further information on how to get onto these social media platforms please contact the front office.

Today we farewell Miss Shanyn Gibbs for one year. Miss Gibbs will be moving to Canada in the coming weeks. We wish Miss Gibbs all the very best and look forward to her return late 2022.

May the sun keep shining and you have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Katie Wallace
