PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents,

We are now well over the half-way point of term one and students and staff have well and truly settled into work routines. Next week, students in year three and five will begin preparation for 2021 NAPLAN testing. As some of the content is completed electronically, there is quite a bit of preparation before the scheduled testing weeks between 10th – 21st May. Parents with any questions or concerns should contact Deputy Principal, Mr Chris Eagle who is co-ordinating the testing.

The permanent principal position for Kingston PS has now been advertised and is expected to be finalised with an appointment early next term. I will remain in the relieving capacity until then.

Parent, Teacher & Student Survey

As part of its review process Kingston Primary School has asked key stakeholders to complete a satisfaction survey. This survey is completed every two years and results are fed back to the Kingston School Board to discuss the results and inform ongoing planning. As the survey is confidential, it is run on a web based survey tool that also provides parents with the opportunity to make more general comments.

I urge parents to complete the survey which will enable the school to respond to community perceptions about how we are performing. Students in years 5 & 6 will complete the survey at school and teaching staff will complete their version of the survey through an on-line survey tool too.

Parents can access the survey by clicking on the link below. It will be open for responses for the next two weeks.

Kingston PS Board Vacancies

The School Board are seeking parent nominations for vacancies that have come available as a result of some current parent representatives on the board retiring.

Attached is a form that should be used for nominations for board vacancies. If the school get more nominations than there are vacancies, a voting process will be used as outlined on the information sheet. If you have any questions, please contact Peter Jones at the school.

Student-dress Code

Our school has an enviable record of students wearing the school uniform both proudly and appropriately. It has come to our attention recently that a number of students, both girls and boys, have quite long hair that is not appropriately secured. As head lice are unfortunately common in WA schools, there are student hygiene concerns that long and loose hair pose. Additionally, unsecured hair can pose a safety hazard during some school activities. We will be requesting that students with long hair secure hair appropriately whilst at school. This is also consistent with guidelines at local high schools to ensure hygiene and safety of students. Your assistance in this matter will be appreciated.
