PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

We have had a flying start to term four with a couple of fantastic sports carnivals in the first two weeks. Congratulations to all of our kids who ran, jumped, threw, skipped and flew at our carnivals. We are all very proud of the effort that the students made to try their best. Thank you to all our staff who worked hard to ensure it was a great day for our kids. A special thanks to Mr Campbell for the excellent organisation of the carnivals. Thanks also to the P&C for feeding us on the day – Well done.

Open Night.

We finally had our parent open night this week. Thanks again to our awesome staff who stayed back to talk with our parents, grandparents, carers and friends. We hope you enjoyed walking through our classesrooms.

Class Preferences for 2021

We are currently working on our class structure for next year. This is a huge task that often takes a lot of time and energy from our teachers and admin staff. If you have a special class placement request for your child in 2021 now is the time to let us know.

We are able to consider a request related to pairing of friends and friendships, separation of students from students and even separation of students from teachers! However, we cannot consider requests that relate to not wanting to be in a split class. One of our aims is to teach the child, not the class. Some of our teachers have requested to “loop” (stay with the same students in 2021) with their classes. Your child’s’ class teacher will inform you if this may be the case.

Class preference requests must be in writing (via app or email is fine) and they must be addressed to the principal, and received by Friday November 6.

Minor Works - Gazebo

As a result of a government grant for shade structures in the midst of the COVID19 recovery strategy, we have been lucky enough to see some minor works take place in one of our courtyards. From my perspective this is the first step in a bigger picture to “cool down” the courtyards that run through the centre of the school. The gazebo, or band stand as I like to call it is almost complete. When this is done we with consult with a landscape designer to introduce some grass and garden areas within the courtyard to provide better, cooler play environments for our kids. Then we can start on the next courtyard. If you have any ideas or would like to talk more about this please talk with me.

Give a Can Give a Damn

I would like to express my thanks to the Kingston community for the amazing effort that Kingston made to contribute to this community project. Once again in 2020 the Kingston community made the greatest contribution to the event. We donated over 2500 items! The average contribution for various schools and community groups was in the hundreds. CANgratulations to everyone who contributed and a big thankyou from those charities who benefit from your generosity.

New Classroom Building

As you would be aware Kingston Primary is getting a new four classroom building. The project goes out to tender next month and we expect the works to start in about February. The new building will be located right on top of the junior playground. The junior playground will be moved to where transportable classes T2, T3 and T4 are at the moment. They will be removed during the summer holidays and the area will be converted to play space.

New Deputy Principal

We will very soon be welcoming a new deputy principal to join our Kingston leadership team. Mr Jae Dornan will be replacing Tanya Uren. Jae starts at Kingston on November 9th and comes to us from Moora where he was also a Deputy Principal. I am sure you will see Mr Dornan around as he learns all about Kingston. Please say hello and make him feel welcome.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

Regards
