It is great to talk with our community today and share how smoothly our school is tracking following the biggest disruptions in education for many decades. One of the biggest changes that is noticed by our parents (but not our kids) is the way in which we control visitors into the school. We have kept some of these strategies to ensure that our school remains safe and calm for all of our students.
As you know we now have different entry and exit strategies in place. These were originally planned as a result of COVID19 regulations set by the State. We have shelved many of these now, however like many school across the state, we have continued with the student arrival at school time of 8.30am. This is working really well for all of our classes. The school day does not start until 8.45am so there is no need to rush to get to class. Pre COVID we had up to 200+ children arriving at school between 8 - 8.20am. This was regularly very problematic for students, teachers and admin due to early arrival and behavioural issues that tended to arise. Our staff reported that students now arrive at class far more settled and calm.
Parents who need drop their children off earlier than 8.30am should contact the school office to discuss a supervision arrangement. Students arriving via the school bus service before 8.30am will be supervised inside the school gates.
During the day most of our gates are locked, which strengthens the security of our school. All visitors must wear a visitor’s sticker and those without a sticker are approached by a staff member. Controlling who is in the school during the day makes all of our kids safer.
The opening and closing times of our gates is flexible depending on the weather. We will open them earlier and close them later during poor weather conditions.
All of our local schools have slightly different procedures around this. Kingston is one of the biggest Primary Schools in the Southwest (and State) and our procedures will differ from smaller schools due to our population and circumstances of individual students.
Next year our school times may be adjusted to allow for new lawful industrial agreements that come into place in 2021. We will let you know more about this closer to the time.
8.30am - Students arrive - Gates open
8.45am - School day starts
2.55pm - Gates open
3.00pm - School day finishes
Gates are opened and closed earlier/later during poor weather conditions.
Have a great week

This fortnight our Core Virtue is : Responsibility
Being responsible means others can depend on you. You are willing to be accountable for your actions. When things go wrong and you make a mistake, you make amends instead of excuses. When you are responsible, you keep your agreements. You give your best to any job. Responsibility is the ability to respond ably. It is a sign of growing up.
I am responsible. I give my best to all that I do and keep my agreements. I learn from my mistakes. I am willing to make amends.
Thank you for your continued support. Volunteers are much needed and very welcome in the canteen. If you have anytime spare please pop in and see us. We make a wonderful cuppa.
