I am writing this current newsletter from Kobe Japan where 35 Kingstonites have travelled to share our friendship and culture with our sister school Takenodai Elementary School. It has been a very exciting trip so far. Our first day was a very long one from 4am when we meet at the airport till almost midnight when we arrived at our hotel.
The staff and parents at our sister school have been fantastic and I can certainly stay that it has been a real emersion into Japanese culture for all of us. On the weekend we had a great opportunity to have a look around the city of Kobe. With heaps of travel by foot I got 20 000 steps in! Being bigger than the kids they probably did half that again.
Our students are currently attending Takenodai as regular students and are staying with families from the community. They are experiencing everyday school life as would a typical Japanese family. I have had to scrub up on my teaching skills and have managed to teach a couple of classes here as well. (I don’t think they will offer me a job!)
Being the last week of term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff, students and parents here at Kingston Primary School for the warm welcome I have received in my first term here and look forward to returning in term after a short LSL break.
Have a great school break.

Creativity is the power of imagination. Creativity is a way to develop your special talents. It is seeing something in a new way, finding a different way to solve a problem. Creativity is using your imagination to bring something new into the world.
I am creative. I have special gifts and I am willing to develop them. I use my imagination. I am open to inspoirtion. I am happy to be myself.
Our next fundraising is at the Junior Sports Day (18th October) and Senior Sports Day (25th October), where we are working with the canteen ladies for exciting lunches and we will have raffles and a cake store too. Any donations of cakes or biscuits would be very much appreciated. Please bring to the canteen during the weeks of the sports carnivals. Thank you.
The special lunch orders for the sports carnivals will be coming home soon. For students who are not having the special lunch orders, we will be having a barbeque selling sausages in buns for $2.50.
We are still looking for a volunteer who would run the fundraising for the rest of the year. If you are interested, please come and see me.
** Just a reminder that the canteen is open 5 days a week
from 8.30am to 2.00pm **
Don't miss out on Pizza day this Friday. If you require spare forms, we have them in the canteen, alternatively you can order via clickquik.

We are coming to the end of our work placement and would like to take this opportunity to thank the Kingston Primary School community for their continued support during Term 3. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here working with you all.
Our class assistance has kept us busy since the beginning of term with support, listening to reading and getting to know the teachers and students. Kiddy Chinwag, our most popular program has been very successful with the students through colouring, making loom bands, building connections and playing games. We have been facilitating the Highway Heroes workshops with the Year 4 cohort, focusing on teaching the difference between bullying and teasing. The students have demonstrated interest, responsible behaviour and have been very interactive during the sessions, especially with role play. The children have been encouraged to use their confidence in stance and straight talk to eliminate any further teasing escalating. We would encourage they continue to practice these strategies, so they can be carried beyond the school grounds and into adulthood.
We would like to personally thank Mrs Anne Curd, Mrs Reet Joy, Mrs Kate Black and Mrs Jane Franklin for their extra time and support they have provided us during our work placement.
Paula and Rose
We would like to leave you with our last self-care tip!
WHEN YOU’RE FEELING FRUSTRATED
For parents or caregivers who find themselves upset and out of touch with the present moment, a popular mindfulness exercise known as S.T.O.P. can be helpful.
- Stop. Just take a momentary pause, no matter what you’re doing.
- Take a breath. Feel the sensation of your own breathing, which brings you back to the present moment.
- Observe. Acknowledge what is happening, for good or bad, inside you or out. Just note it.
- Proceed. Having briefly checked in with the present moment, continue with whatever it was you were doing.
REMEMBER - Always refill your emotional cup in order to take care of your mental, emotional and physical health for your overall wellbeing!!!
For those of you that have never attended/or heard of Chin Wag, any parents or carers who are:
- New to the area
- May feel isolated
- Have a partner who works away/shift worker
- May have some ideas on how we can extend our support to families
- Or you may just have some spare time and would love a 'cuppa and a chat'
We meet each Wednesday morning at 8.45am - 10.15am for morning tea. You will find us in the OSH Club room, T9 (Demountable building next to oval). We would love for you to come and join us in a friendly laid back environment. We look forward to meeting some new faces and catching up with the regular Chin Wag crew.
